BISMARCK, N.D. – On Wednesday, March 29th, Empire Petroleum Corporation notified the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) of a produced water spill from a valve leak in Bottineau County.  The incident occurred southeast of Bottineau.

The initial report from Empire Petroleum indicates that approximately 475 BBLS of produced water were released.  Produced water is a by-product of oil production.   Empire Petroleum Corporation immediately conducted cleanup efforts, and personnel from DMR will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation. 

The Department of Mineral Resources’ mission is to encourage and promote the development, production, and utilization of oil and gas in North Dakota in such a manner that will prevent waste and maximize economic recovery to realize the greatest possible good from our vital natural resources.
