Incident Reported in McKenzie County 


BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division was notified of produced water release occurring Thursday, February 8 at the SMOKEY 16-21 SWD well location, Watford City, McKenzie County, North Dakota.  


McKenzie Energy Partners reported Friday, February 9 that 400 bbl of brine were released due to facility valve/piping connection leak. Product was contained on-site and cleanup is underway. At the time of reporting 398 bbl of brine had been recovered.


A state inspector has been to the location and will monitor any additional cleanup required.


Federal and state laws require federal and/or state agencies be notified in the event of accidental spillage of any materials that may pollute water, air or soil.
