BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division was notified of a release occurring Monday, January 22 at the STATE RANDIE 44-36H well location, SW of Dunn County, North Dakota.  Marathon Oil reported Tuesday, January 23 that 280 barrels of oil were released due to a tank line split. Product was contained on-site and cleanup is underway. At the time of reporting 280 barrels of oil had been recovered.

BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division was notified of a release occurring Saturday, January 20 at the Soto 5097 12-3 2B well location, NW of McKenzie County, North Dakota.  Chord Energy reported Saturday, that 500 barrels of oil were released due to an equipment failure/malfunction. Product was contained on-site and cleanup is underway. At the time of reporting 500 barrels of oil had been recovered.

Oil and Gas Division reallocation of CARES Act Funding approved for work in western North Dakota

The North Dakota Emergency Commission and North Dakota Legislative Budget Section have approved reallocating 1% of the state’s CARES Act Funding to a grant program which will provide additional short- and long-term economic support statewide from a previously approved Oil and Gas Division orphan well site reclamation program. The $16 million reallocation will move a portion of dollars from the reclamation of orphan well sites to a grant program that will support the employment of frac crews to complete drilled but uncompleted (“DUC”) wells.

Director of North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, Lynn Helms, issued the below statements today following an oil price drop of more than 20% between Friday March 6th and Monday, March 9th. Over the weekend the price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil was down as much as a 34%, one of the largest price drops in decades.
